Ski Areas Slovenia

In Slovenia there are about a dozen of larger as well as countless small ski areas that operate more than 270 km of piste and over 190 lifts. The ski areas reach up to a height of 2,292 m and offer mostly easy and intermediate pistes which are best suitable for families and beginners. More experienced skiers will find a few ski routes and black pistes in the larger ski centres. Most of the ski areas a located in the lower mountain ranges of Pohorje in the East, and in the Julian Mountains in the North West. The best known ski areas are Maribor in Lower Styria and Kranjska Gora in the Gorenjska Region, and both are known as locations of the Alpine Ski World Cup.

Two more known ski areas with more than 20 km of pistes are the extremly snowy ski area Vogel-Bphinj as well as Kobla-Bohinj in the Gorenjska region. In the South of the country there are very few small ski areas with a maximum of 8 km of pistes.

Après ski Slovenia

The ski areas in Slovenia are, in its size and quality, especially suitable for families and pleasure skiers. Classic après ski parties in umbrella bars can, if at all, only be found in a small range in ski centres. In the Maribor ski area for example, the huts at the mountain and valley stations invite you to friendly get-togethers with music and drinks. Besides skiing, numerous leisure time activities such as tobogganing, cross-country skiing, snow shoe hikes, horse-drawn carriage rides and winter hikes are a good way to get to know the wooded landscapes in the wonderful holiday regions.

For a completely recreative holiday there are 14 certified natural health resorts in Slovenia offering various thermal baths and spa centres. Century old traditions and holistic treatments are applied in modern health baths. A large selection of spas at affordable prices round off your winter holidays in Slovenia.

Excursions Slovenia

In Slovenia there are plenty of sights, historic cities and scenic natural idyll waiting to be explored. Due to its eventful history as a part of Austria-Hungary and, later, Yugoslavia, Slovenia is more characterised by its cultural history than any other country. Slovenia is considered the only country worldwide that has a national holiday of culture (8th February)! In the two largest cities alone, the capital Ljubljana and the Lower Styrian metropolis Maribor, there are countless historic buildings and cultural assets: from Opera and ballet houses to the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Theatre and the National Gallery to numerous cultural events. The arts, culture and history are to be found everywhere.

For friends of nature and lovers of mountains, Slovenia offers many excursion destinations. As the third best wooded country of Europe, it comprises a huge network of forest hiking trails alongside which you can also take snow shoe hikes and ski tours.
