Ski area La Forêt Blanche

Ski area La Forêt Blanche

With the lift pass "La Forêt Blanche" you have access to the pistes of Vars and Risoul, which form the mutual ski area of La Forêt Blanche. The name is programme in this case: the "white forest", as it is named in French, offers 185 km of diverse piste and winter sports fun in front of a wonderful wintry backdrop.

The ski area is accessible from directly above the individual villages and is ideal for families and beginners with it's many blue and red pistes. La Forêt Blanche was even awarded the Les Petits Montagnards for it's family-friendliness. The little ones will find e.g. the slope towards Vars Sainte Marie enjoyable, a 3.4 km long piste named Olympique which begins at the peak of La Mayt. Also the areas around around the Homme de Pierre and Mont Mayt are ideal for practising the first swings in the snow. But also the more experienced will find what they are looking for in La Forêt Blanch. A real treat is the high-speed track Les Vautours, which hosts the traditional high-speed race Kilomètre Lancé in a gorge just below the Chabrières.

Freeride fans will enjoy the terrain around L'Eyssina. Snowboarder should rather turn towards Risoul, as they will find the "Surfland" here, which is one of Europe's largest snow parks and even offers a 150 km long, illuminated half-pipe. In Vars is another great fun park, which provides 8 ha of area and a practice lift for beginners.

Night skiing Vars-Risoul

The ski area La Forêt Blanche offers a small night skiing area in both Vars as well as Risoul. In Risoul 1850 you can find Night Park, which really lives up to its name: the fun area is illuminated by floodlit in the evening. Freeriders and all other night-owls can reach the 700 m line via the Pelinche tow lift. The highlight here is the 150 m illuminated half pipe.

Another, family-friendly opportunity to go night skiing can be found in Vars. The Ecrins tow lift in Vars les Claux opens for night skiing during the French school holiday. The exact dates can be found on the ski area operator's homepage. During the "Ski Nocturne Ecrins", an approx. 500 m piste is illuminated until 19:30 twice per week.

Après ski Vars-Risoul

After a sunny day on the piste there are many cafés, restaurants and bars in Vars which are awaiting the skiers with food and drink. The cinema in the village is also a good option for evening entertainment for the whole family.

Sports and fun can be combined away from the piste with the diverse leisure time programme in resort: be it paragliding, a squash session or twirl on the ice rink - here there is surely something for everyone. A really special experience is also a dog-sleigh ride, a snow-shoe hike through the wonderful winter landscape or a session of ice climbing. There also is a 2 km toboggan run.

Snowpark: Vars-Risoul

The area of "La Forêt Blanche" presents itself as a real fun park paradise and offers a total of eight different snow parks, seven in Vars and one located in Risoul. In Vars the "Vars Park" is divided into seven different fun zones.

Besides the "Kid Park", "Super Kid Park" and the "Girly Park" which offers pink boxes for the girls to test their skills, the other 4 zones offer their individual highlights. The "Park des Escondus" offer 16 - 18 different elements for the more advanced riders. The "Park des Ecrins" is perfect for all those who love to freerstyle at night. Once per week the park remains open in the evenings to let the riders try the 3 different lines (from beginner to pro) under floodlights.

A top location for capturing your styles and jumps on video is the "Totem Park". In this "Indian Village" the park offers rails and totem poles made of wood to be filmed and photographed on. In the "Vars-West" zone of the "Totem Park" the riders can burn off steam on various obstacles in the wild-west look.

This park is surely worth a visit if you like video/photo captures or just enjoy riding natural elements. The great fun park offer in Vars is finally rounded off by the 8 ha large "Park de l'Eyssina", located at 2,400 m altitude. Here you can try out the funny alphabet boxes in the "Alfa Park" or get going on various lines with loads of tables, rails and kickers. If you are looking for a direct challenge then you can take up on the extensive boardercross run. Between the runs or at the end of adventurous day you can easily relax in the "Chill Zone" with cool sounds and a juicy BBQ.

If you think this much diversity, as it is to be found in the "Vars Park", can't be topped, must check out the "Surfland" in Risoul. This is one of the largest and most impressive snow parks in Europe and it was used as the official training hotspot for the Olympic Games. Besides the standard rails and kickers there is also a 150 m long, and a slightly smaller half-pipe available, and the park is also host to regular BigAir and other contests, like the European Freestyle Snowboard Cup from 22/01 - 24/01/2018.
