Pitztal Glacier & Rifflsee Ski area

The "Pitztaler Gletscher & Rifflsee" lift pass covers both the Rifflsee and Pitztaler Gletscher ski areas. This means that winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy an area at altitudes ranging from 1,640 to 3,440 metres, featuring approximately 67 kilometres of slopes and 13 ski lifts – plus 3 kilometres of off-piste runs. Superbly groomed slopes, fun parks, a half-pipe, deep-snow and freeride areas, a floodlit run, as well as the high guarantee of snow, attract skiers, carvers and snowboarders alike.

Families in particular will find plenty to enjoy in the Rifflsee ski area (approx. 26 kilometres of slopes). At Grubenkopf, you can also look forward to magnificent deep-snow areas and a black run! A red run down to the valley takes you back to the valley station of the glacier cable car, allowing you to transfer to the Pitztal Glacier ski area.

Austria’s highest-altitude ski resort offers a unique natural experience with the world’s highest igloo village, featuring illuminated ice sculptures, a bar and a chill-out area. Another highlight is the Wildspitzbahn, a modern cable car that takes you to the futuristic mountain station at an altitude of 3,440 metres in just a few minutes. The cable car also houses Austria’s highest café, which features a cantilevered sun terrace.

A snow park featuring a variety of features will particularly delight snowboarders, whilst the Mittelbachferner also boasts fantastic freeride areas. The ski tour through the Taschachtal valley is a real challenge for true experts. It’s no coincidence that the Pitztal Glacier hosts one of the toughest freeride races, the Pitztal Wild Face.

Après ski in Pitztal Glacier & Rifflsee

Numerous après ski bars and rustic pubs offer the opportunity to round off the day with a nightcap after skiing. The first mulled wine can be enjoyed on one of the sun terraces in the huts in the ski area. In the valley, you can continue in the Schirmhaserlbar, for example. In St. Leonhard, bars, restaurants and dance clubs such as the "Hexenkessl" or the "Bar Theis" invite you to enjoy the evening programme.

Winter hiking trails and numerous toboggan runs, some of which are floodlit in the evening and offer sledging fun from 200 metres to 6 km, offer sporty alternatives to the daily fun on the slopes. An absolute highlight is ice climbing on the "Big Ben", an approx. 30 m high ice tower next to the valley station of the Rifflsee lift. Alpinists can also reach a top area for ice climbing via the Glacier Express: a glacier ice cave in the glacier ski area offers ideal conditions. But the Pitztal also offers more harmless activities such as ice skating, Bavarian curling and tennis.
