Mountopolis - Mayrhofen/Hippach Ski area

With the "Zillertaler Superskipass", you can enjoy 541 kilometres of slopes in the Zillertal Arena, at the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen (Mountopolis), in the Ski & Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000, in the Hochzillertal – Hochfügen – Spieljoch ski area, and in the Wildkogel-Arena in Bramberg. Numerous freeride areas and snow parks complement the first-class range of slopes. The ski resorts are superbly connected by a free bus and train shuttle service. For several years now, the Zillertal Arena has also offered a free Wi-Fi network across its ski resorts. So not only can you glide across the snow-covered slopes and enjoy the sunshine, but you can also share your experiences and highlights directly with your loved ones back home (see Ski Region).

With the Penken and the Ahorn, Mayrhofen offers you 142 kilometres of skiing fun, 8.7 kilometres of ski routes and almost everything a sports enthusiast could wish for: challenging black runs on the Penken – the famous "Harakiri", with a 78 per cent gradient, impresses even the pros – as well as wonderfully wide slopes for beginners and carvers on the Ahorn. The spectacular Penken Park is regarded as an international hotspot for all freestylers.

The circuit suggestions provided by the lifts are perfect for exploring the ski mountains around Mayrhofen. Experienced skiers might, for example, choose the "HöhenmeterFresserRunde", on which they cover a total of 13,000 metres of vertical ascent. Another option is the Fun + Action circuit, which takes you not only to the Harakiri but also to the popular PenkenPark and the ski resort’s race runs. For leisure skiers and families, the Penken beginners’ circuit and the Ahorn family circuit are more suitable. Apart from the challenging run down to the valley, the Ahorn, with its wide, sunny slopes, is considered the perfect terrain for leisure skiers, beginners and families anyway.

The entire ski resort is linked by 45 lifts and 16 magic carpets, including Austria’s largest gondola, the Ahornbahn. On the Penken Kombibahn, you can even choose whether you’d prefer to travel in the gondola or on the chairlift. Numerous snow cannons also ensure 100 per cent snow coverage across the ski area.

Another special highlight is the Hintertux Glacier, part of the "Zillertaler Superskipass" lift pass network: Thanks to its size and challenging slopes, it ranks among the best glaciers in the Alps. At altitudes ranging from 1,500 to 3,250 metres, Austria’s only year-round ski resort offers 64 kilometres of groomed slopes, 20 modern lifts and, as the highlight, a twelve-kilometre-long run down to the valley.

Après ski in Mountopolis - Mayrhofen/Hippach

First enjoy the magnificent runs, then let your hair down at a massive après-ski party – that’s Mayrhofen! A very popular meeting place in the ski resort is the "Pilzbar" at the top station of the new 3S Penkenbahn. Once the lifts have closed, the fun continues in the bars down in the valley. Names like "Icebar", "Brück’n Stadl", "Yeti Bar" or "Hiata-Madl" are music to the ears of any après-ski fan. After dinner, the party carries on for night owls. Mayrhofen boasts a lively nightlife. If you fancy it, you can party until the early hours in clubs such as "Scotland Yard" or the steepest bar in the Zillertal, the "Harakiri Bar".

The Ahorn also offers a wide range of leisure activities for non-skiers. How about a winter hike through the unspoilt, wintry landscape on the Penken and the Ahorn? Numerous winter hiking trails, such as the "WinterWanderWeg Penken", the "BergWaldWeg" or the "WinterWanderWeg Filzenkogel", offer moments of pure enjoyment and impressive views of the surrounding mountains. A new highlight is the "AlbertAdler ErlebnisWeg", which leads to the "AdlerBühne Ahorn". Europe’s highest-altitude bird of prey sanctuary delights visitors with majestic birds that can be admired at close quarters.

The "PistenBock tobogganing fun" offers thrilling descents for young and old alike. On a snowcat ride or a guided tour of the Ahornbahn cable car, visitors can take a look behind the scenes at the day-to-day operations of the ski resort.

Those who prefer a more relaxed pace can meet friendly people in one of the café-bars or sample the regional specialities at one of the many restaurants. Exciting alternatives include horse-drawn carriage rides through the Mayrhofen-Hippach holiday region or ice skating at the ice rink. For the more adventurous, we recommend various frozen waterfalls for ice climbing or paragliding, even in winter. On a safe tandem flight, you can get a taste of the mountain air and enjoy the fascinating panoramic views.

Snowpark Mountopolis - Mayrhofen/Hippach: PenkenPark
