Cross-country Marquartstein
Cross-country skiing in the holiday region of Kaiserwinkl is on the rise! The region around the Unterberghorn (1,700 m) and Zahmen Kaiser (1,200 m) mountains is one of the most favoured cross-country skiing areas in Austria, and is on a winning streak with its approx. 170 kilometres of trail. This region has as much space for avid cross-country skiers to let off steam as for beginners. There's something for everyone; from the sunny high mountain valley from which you have a gorgeous view of the Wilden Kaiser massif, to the racing tracks. Highlight of the season is the all-yearly "Koasalauf" (Tyrolean for "Kaiserlauf" = "emporer's race") in February (08/02/2009), a public race during which around 2,000 cross-country skiers hit the snow! Hochkössen actually wears the seal of approval from Tyrol; perhaps due to the fact that the entire ski area around the Unterberghorn was diversely modernised in the last few years. This provides a convenient and pleasant frame for anyone wedelling down the piste to really savour the experience!
