Ski area Fanningberg

Mariapfarr's local ski area is the family mountain Fanningberg. The pistes on the wide slopes are between 1,497 m and 2,115 m above sea level and are served by five lifts. With the lift pass, 24 kilometres of piste of all levels of difficulty are accessible. The ski area is manageable and family-friendly, but also offers plenty of variety for advanced skiers thanks to some difficult steep slopes and a race course. One of the two 6-seater chair lifts ascends to the Fanninghöhe, the highest point in the ski area at 2,115 metres. From here, an approximately 1 km long ski route leads down towards the Zirberl hut.

For the next generation of skiers, there is a lovingly designed practice piste with fairytale characters and a magic carpet in the Funny Children's Park. Several rustic huts and mountain restaurants with sun terraces invite you to stop off at the edge of the piste. Some innkeepers serve fresh, home-grown produce and regional schnapps. Thanks to the extensive snowmaking facilities, the ski area has guaranteed reliability of snow throughout the season. There is also an approx. 7 km long toboggan run on the Fanningberg, which starts at the Gamsstadl.

The new "Lungo Winter Card" ski pass introduced for the 2025/2026 season gives you access to over 250 kilometres of piste in the 4 ski areas of Katschberg/Aineck, Grosseck/Speiereck, Fanningberg and Obertauern as well as the Lessach, Zederhaus, Schönfeld and Krakau lifts.

Après ski Fanningberg

There are several refreshment stops in the ski area where you can enjoy a cosy après ski. The top meeting point is the Zirberl hut with its large sun terrace. Relaxed sunbathing is also on the programme at the Zirmbar. In Otto's umbrella bar at the valley station of the Samson chair lift, things get extremely lively from the afternoon onwards.

In Lungau and therefore also around Mariapfarr, guests can expect relaxing winter sports in all its facets. Those who are less keen on après ski can go snowshoe hiking, ski touring or whizz down one of the two toboggan runs. The Liegnitz toboggan run is located at the Wielandhof snack station and is up to 2 km long, depending on the snow conditions. It is also floodlit in the evening. In the Fanningberg ski area, there is another 8 km of tobogganing at the Gamsstadl. Four winter hiking trails start in Mariapfarr, which are between 2.5 km and 14 km long. The easy sun trail is particularly suitable for families with its 4 km and information boards along the way. Horse lovers will feel particularly at home in Mariapfarr: Several riding stables offer horse-drawn sleigh rides and rides in the snow.

Those who prefer to get around with several horsepower can take a winter driving course in several towns in Lungau. During the driving exercises, drivers learn how to control the vehicle on slippery roads and in the snow. A worthwhile investment for drivers travelling in the mountains.

For a relaxing change of pace or in bad weather, a visit to the SAMSUNN Vitality and Wellness Centre in the village is worthwhile. An 1800 m² spa area with sauna landscape awaits guests here. An ice skating rink is available free of charge next to the Samsunn. There is only a charge for hiring skates.

Snowpark Fanningberg: Snow park

Unfortunately, there is no snowpark on the Fanningberg. However, there are other fun areas nearby. In the Katschberg-Aineck ski area, there is a small but fine ensemble of obstacles and a half-pipe.
