This extensive and varied ski area is particularly well-suited to families and children. A magic carpet, children’s playground, ski schools and a practice slope provide the ideal conditions for little ones to take their first turns, whilst more advanced families will also find plenty to enjoy on the resort’s numerous wide and sunny runs.
Beginners will find lovely, wide slopes throughout the entire area. Very close to Bad Hofgastein is also the practice area of the Angertal Ski Centre, featuring the Gasti Snow Park. Challenging runs can be found on the Stubnerkogel, amongst other places. The greatest vertical drop in the Salzburg region is on the "Hohe Scharte Nord" run on the Schlossalm.
Snowboarders and freestylers can let off steam in the Gastein Snow Park and on the Funslope. There are specially marked routes for ski tourers.
In total, the Gastein Valley offers three ski areas – the Dorfgastein-Großarltal and Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel ski regions, as well as Sportgastein – whose diverse and perfectly interconnected facilities are sure to delight all winter sports enthusiasts.
With the "Ski amadé" lift pass, you have access to a total of around 760 kilometres of slopes (including ski routes) and approximately 223 lifts! The Gastein ski region is part of Ski amadé and, with around 181 kilometres of slopes (including ski routes) and 36 lifts, is one of the largest and most beautiful ski regions in the Salzburg region. Thanks to its impressive altitude (up to 2,650 m) and a large number of modern snow-making systems, excellent snow conditions usually prevail here well into spring.

In Bad Hofgastein you also have the opportunity to go ice skating, Bavarian curling, indoor tennis or riding Icelandic horses in the indoor riding centre. To explore the nature of the Gastein Valley, there are numerous winter hiking trails.
History buffs can visit the Gastein Museum or Klammstein Castle at the entrance to the valley, which offers an exhibition on the development of the castle. Families should not miss out on a visit to the fortress either: Ghost tours are offered here for little spooky fans.
