skiing Spain: Snow up your Life!

Following the phrase "Viva España", Spain isn't just a great holiday destination in summer. The diverse landscape and climate make it possible to go skiing and swim in the sea on the same day. Every ski region on the Iberian peninsula has its own charm and peculiarities, making them worth an exploration. High mountains and snowy forests, the scenic variety here knows no limits. Special cultural highlights, e.g. flamenco or bull fighting, which stands for grace, bravery and beauty in Spain, give the country its own special charm. A must in Spain is the typical Spanish fiesta, which is sure to be celebrated somewhere.

Eastern Spain:
The gorgeous mountian landscape in Eastern Spain is particularly impressive with its unique and imposing backdrop. The various ski areas are guaranteed to make every winter sports fan's heart beat faster. A winter holiday here is sure to be a lovely experience.

Andalusia:
Andalusia - a mix of all sorts of culture, extended walks on 260 km of coastline, altitudes up to 3,400 m and snow-covered mountains with excellently prepared pistes and racing runs in white powder. The Sierra Nevada was declared a national park in 1992 and is the number 1 ski area in Spain. Both of the highest points on the Iberian peninsula, Mulhacén (3,482 m) and Veleta (3,392 m) offer all winter sports fans, whether beginner or expert, tons of skiing fun and gorgeous views. Andalusian cities such as Granada, Sevilla or Cordoba demonstrate a varied history. In particular the Moors, who ruled here for a long time, left traces in the form of the numerous alhambras.

Ski areas

A modern infrastructure and very diverse facilities distinguish Spain's ski areas. The country has invested a lot in its ski areas in the past few years, allowing all skiers to enjoy a fantastic holiday, whether beginner, advanced or free styler. Skiers can swing down to the valley from two mountain chains - in addition to the ski areas in the Pyrenees, Europe's southern-most ski area awaits in Sierra Nevada!
Spain's most modern ski area is in Formigal in the Pyrenees, the recent strong expansion of which is not quiet completed. The largest in the Pyrenees with 113.7 kilometres of piste, it offers skiers a new snow park, a boarder cross area and a variety of ski lodges and restaurants in addition to its comprehensive piste network.
Baqueira-Beret, with 103.9 kilometres of piste, has also been noticeably expanded in the past few years. The ski area stretches over altitudes from 1,500 m - 2,510 m and attracts skiers with its altitude difference of 1,000 m; it is one of the most popular areas in the country. Due to its Atlantic position, the ski area is very snow sure. It also attracts many deep snow fans, who can enjoy fantastic off-piste runs due to the size of Baqueira.
In the Sierra Nevada, skiers can curve down Europe's southern-most ski area. With 86.9 kilometres of piste, this ski area was host to the 1996 ski world championships. On clear days, skiers can enjoy a panorama view from the highest point at 3,282 m to the Mediterranean coast and even Morocco!
