Ski vacations Saas-Fee - pearl of the Alps!
SaastalSurrounded by eighteen 3,573 m peaks, the panoramic view of the Saas Valley is magnificent! The lift systems reach up to 3,600 m altitude and offers access to a total of 147 km of piste of all levels of difficulty. The well-known Metro Alpin, the world's highest underground funicular, takes you underneath the glacier right up to the Mittelallain where a spectacular mountain backdrop awaits you. The ski area is also very attractive for international guests, as e.g. the FIS Snowboarding Freestyle World Cup, the spectacular Glacier Bike Downhill Race or the Allalin Race all take place here. The latter takes place at the end of the season and is known as the longest downhill race in the world, speeding down from 3,573 m to 1,800 m altitude, directly in the resort. The 4 lovely resorts at the foot of the pistes are all perfectly connected by buses, so you can commute and enjoy the skiing day to the fullest. Every resort has it's own flair. There are family-friendly and traditional resorts with cosy buildings in original local style, but there are also lively apres ski villages to visit. Diversity is sure to be found here!
The run through the Saas Valley, with its deep ravines and steep mountain slopes, is very impressive. In the heart of the highest mountains in the Swiss Alps, the road winds up to the resort entrance at 1,800 m. Here you have to leave your own car behind and travel with the free local bus, an electric car or on foot to the resort. The former mountain farmer village at the foot of the “Dom” (4,545 m) has developed into a lively and yet traditional winter sports resort with tons of flair and a wide palette of shops and entertainment options.
From the village, you can take one of several gondolas directly into the ski area. The Saas Valley’s most famous lift, the standing cable car “Metro Alpin”, starts at approx. 3,000 m and brings you up to an altitude of 3,500 m in just a few minutes. There you can enjoy a fantastic view of the mountain panorama and, on a clear day, even see the lights of Milan, from the world’s highest rotating restaurant. A level lower you will also find the entrance to the 5,000 m² ice pavilion, which, with a constant temperature of -1°C, offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of the centuries-old Fee Glacier.
In addition to skiing, you can take advantage of all sorts of options in Saas-Fee, e.g. open-air bars with loungers at the foot of the pistes or cosy and traditional restaurants in the resort centre, as well as a lively nightlife and various activities.
