The soft way back in - skiing can be so easy!
"Skiing is like cycling - you never forget how to do it." - All ski instructors who teach adult "pupils" repeat this sentence more and more often. And they are right to do to so. Nowadays there's hardly anything easier than to (re-) learn carving turns. Those who want to re-enter skiing just need the courage to do so.
Many adults who used to ski but haven't been on skis for a longer time don't dare to start again. Often the reason is the fear to fall. After a long abstinence from the piste, whether for family reasons or after hip- or knee surgery, there is a lot of insecurity and inhibition.
Small steps, large effects
Take a heart and try it. Once you're back on skis again it's only a matter of time until the security returns. It's important not to rush anything and to manage the soft practise slopes first. Get used to the feeling to be on skis again step by step and celebrate little achievements. This will help you leave behind the fears and the fun will come back all by itself. In any case, both younger and older skiers who want to re-enter are recommended to take ski lessons. With the right amount of motivation and a good teacher, you can (re-)learn how to ski at every age.
New equipment demand a new skiing technique
In the course of the carving ski revolution the design of skis changed a lot. The modern winter sports equipment allows for a lot of possibilities to learn how to ski. This however also includes a skiing technique that's different than before. A proper training for carving novices is very advisable, even when the "pupil" is already of age and an experienced skier. The big advantage: thanks to the Rocker construction it is a lot easier to ski than it used to be. Most of the returnees are surprised about how fast they progress. While they still learned how to do a stem turn on very long and narrow skis, they can now make beautifully soft turns thanks to the carving skis, and descend with relatively little effort. This realisation is the first step to a successful return.
Ski with modern equipment and ask a professional ski instructor for guidance. This is how you remember what you once learned and will also get to know new techniques. If you following these steps, there'll be nothing in the way for a soft return. Most ski schools also offer adult's courses.
On this page you can find special offers for returnees in which reductions for ski lessons are already included in the package. Start your comeback on skis now, you're not going to regret it!
