Ski vacations Szklarska Poręba - gigantic winter fun in the Giant Mountains!

Szklarska Poręba (Schreiberhau)

Szklarska Poręba (Schreiberhau) lays in the river bed of the Zacken, between the Eastern extension of the Jizera Mountains and the north face of the Giant Mountains, at an altitude of up to 886 m. This picturesque place on earth is know today as one of the most important tourism centres in the Polish part of this massif. Not only poets an writers let themselves be inspired by this wonderful natural landscape, also winter hikers will find what they are looking for. Let yourself be transported up the mountain to the 1,362 m high peak of the Reifträger by the double chair lift, and go on a hike to the fascinating snow caverns, look out for the source of the Elbe River and possibly even cross over the border to the Czech Republic.

Szklarska Poręba offers ideal conditions for active winter sports, thanks to it's good location and high likeliness of snow. Even back in the first half of the 19th century there was a 7 km long toboggan run down into the valley. Up the mountain you had to go by horse. Every winter many tourists come to the resort, as the ski area at the Reifträger (Szrenica) also has some artificially snowed pistes and is known as one of the most attractive ski areas in whole Eastern Europe.

The Giant Mountains are located directly on the border between Poland the Czech Republic, it's name results from the massive visual presence in the landscape. Typical landscape features are rocky ridges and wonderful mountain lakes. For centuries the Giant Mountains have been a tourist magnet for travellers all over the world. Today most of the massif is declared as a national park. The winter sports centres in the Giant Mountains offer everything it needs for a good ski holiday: well-prepared pistes, modern lift systems and seemingly endless cross-country trails on great high plateaus.
