Cross-country Norway

Norway is the destination for cross-country skiers. The assumption that Norwegians are born on skis is a little exaggerated nevertheless this statement is not too far from the truth. Cross-country skiing is a family sport here. To be a successful cross-country skier in Norway you will neither need the most modern equipment nor do you have to be extremely fit. Here relaxation is more important than racing through the landscape to beat the stop watch. Even if temperatures can fall beneath -10° Celsius in December the natives tend to go skiing nearly every day. To counter the cold weather-proof clothing and long underwear as well as sip from a hot thermo-flask are helpful.

A very popular winter sports area is Geilo, located close to the national park Hardangervidda. The resort, located at 800 m altitude, also is an attractive destination for those who prefer the skinny skis. On a total of 220 km of tracks the skiers will find routes for every level of expertise. Also skating fans will find a large offer of trails, covering a distance of 26 km: Go skate!

The resort Hemsedal, the largest winter sports resort in Norway, also offers tracks which will satisfy even the most ambitious sports fans. The skiers can enjoy themselves on a total of 210 km of trails, on some of these even after the sun has set: every evening 10 km of tracks are lit with flood-lights.
