Hauzenberg - relaxation and purely fresh air!Hauzenberg has been state-recognised air health resort since 2002 and is located at an altitude of 546 m in the Danube forest region in the Southern Bavarian forest. The city Passau, which is definitely worth a visit, lies approx. 25 km away and the three country triangle Germany, Austria and Czech are more or less located around the corner. From the peak of the county Passau, the high Oberfrauenwald (950 m), you can enjoy a view all the way to Austria, thanks to an observation tower!
This region is the only one to find Germany's graphite, through which Hauzenberg became famous for being Germany's capital city for graphite industries. The first mines started to develop over a century ago, some are still in operation and its rocks can be found in historic buildings.
The north facing slope of the Oberfrauenwald is perfectly suitable for winter sports athletes, as differences in altitude are part of the geographic features. Within the city area there are unsteady climatic differences: When spring starts in the lower part of the area, it is still freezing in the higher parts.
