Ski area Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei

With the "SkiHit" lift pass, you can ski the 358 kilometres of piste in the following eight ski areas to your heart's content: Großglockner Resort, Brunnalm/Defereggental, Sillian/Hochpustertal, Kartitsch, Lienz, Obertilliach, Mölltaler Gletscher and Ankogel (see ski region).
East Tyrol's largest ski area has been created by connecting the Matrei and Kals ski areas, the new Großglockner Resort (920 - 2,430 m), with 110 kilometres of piste and 18 lifts. Numerous varied runs for beginners and ambitious skiers invite you on seemingly unlimited, snow-sure ski fun. The Goldried cable car starts from Matrei and runs directly into the ski area, and the new 6-person Cimaross chair lift brings winter sports fans into the ski area. A children's ski park with conveyor belt and igloos is found directly at the mountain station. Snowboarders can really rip it up in the fun park with slides and jumps! Natural conditions and strong snow-making systems make the ski area one of the most snow-sure in the Alps. Those with great endurance should definitely test the 11 km long "Goldried" valley run to Matrei. Cracks will find challenging black valley runs at Cimaross in the direction of Matrei, as well as from the Blauspitze to Kals.

Après ski Virgen

Après ski in the Virgen Valley is rather cosy. A day's skiing quietly fades away in a bar or pub with great friends. Especially recommended is a visit to the aprés ski bar in the Hotel Goldried or in Tom's Pub Bar, which are both located in the valley station of the Goldried chairlift. Nature lovers should not miss out on a guided snowshoe hike with the gamekeepers of the national park. Later in the evening, the "BB-Bar" in Matrei attracts night owls with funky music and self-mixed cocktails. A great source of amusement after skiing is a tobogganing party. In Virgen the lit, natural tobogganing run "Würfelehütte" offers pure entertainment with a length of 2.1 km.
